On Friday, 28th February our Under 15 Boys Soccer Team took on St. Mary’s Edenderry in the League final. In what was a tense affair our lads went 1-0 up after an excellent run and finish by Darren Corcoran. After this things became intense as the strong St. Mary’s side pushed for an equaliser. Our lads sustained the attack and held firm, heading into the break in the lead. Mason Slevin struck an excellent freekick early in the second with the keeper pulling off a save that Peter Schmeichel would have been proud off. With 20 minutes to go the pressure eventually tolled and the tables turned after the concession of two set piece goals. The lads fought until the very end and were perhaps a little unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the dying seconds. Despite the disappointment of losing this final for the second year in succession, the lads showed great sportsmanship and applauded St. Mary’s on their win. The team motto for this run to the final was “Come back carrying your shield or laid out on it”
Suffice to say every player gave 100% and should be very proud of their efforts…..some even donned the traditional Cup Final suits for the occasion.
